Postnatal Care & Support

Once all the excitement and planning for your baby’s arrival is over, and your new bundle of joy has arrived, I will continue to provide you with support as you transition into your new family unit.

So what does postnatal care look like?
If your package includes labour and birth care I can arrange for your baby to have the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) and for all postnatal packages, the Newborn Blood Spot Screening is offered to you on day 5.

At the Day 5 visit I generally recommend the baby is weighed and I will offer you the newborn blood spot screening test.

If necessary, I can help you with a feeding plan and monitor its effectiveness closely. I am an excellent IBCLC-qualified lactation consultant and a qualified tongue-tie practitioner, should this skill be required.

I offer you 4 visits in the first week following the birth.

This ensures you receive intensive support as you come to grips with your new and shiny little human.

Then, if all is well, I will see you for 3 visits in the second week, usually every other day. Don’t worry, I will always be at the end of the phone for a call or a message if you have any questions.

For weeks 3 and 4 the visits get a little less frequent, as by this point, I am trying to wean myself off you. I typically find that by the time we come to the end of your care with me, you are far too busy to fit me in!
